Sunni's August Classes




Beltmaking 101– 2hrs, 1 class session; this class is offered multiple times this month
Class Dates & Times:August 2 @ 6pm-8pm; August 8 @ 10am-12pm; August 31 @ 10am-12pm
Skill Level: Beginner
This class is all about having fun and delving into the world of accessories by creating stellar belts to go with that outfit you just stitched up. These spicy little numbers are a cinch to make! You’ll be learning tried and true techniques from how to cover a buckle to finishing off your belt with eyelets. Each participant will be supplied with a belt and buckle kit to make their own belt plus a list of resources for finding the best beltmaking supplies and instructions for how to recreate belts at home. Come one, come all and let’s have us a belt party!

The Perfect Pencil Skirt Workshop Series
This is a series of three classes in which we’ll go from drafting a pencil skirt sloper made to your measurements, to drafting the style of pencil skirt you want, and finally constructing a truly fabulous skirt to last you for years to come. This series will give you the skills required to make endless pencil skirts at home!

Drafting the Perfect Pencil Skirt – 2 hrs, 1 class session
Class Dates & Times: August 7 @ 6pm-8pm
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner - Intermediate
This class is the first in the Perfect Pencil Skirt Workshop Series. Do you lust after perfectly fitting pencil skirt patterns yet find them all to be lacking perfect fit? Fear no more! In this class, you’ll learn how to draft the perfect pencil skirt just for you, made from your measurements. From taking measurements to putting them on paper, we’ll go from start to perfectly fitting pencil skirt basic pattern in no time. For this class, participants will be supplied with drafting paper and drafting supplies and come away with one amazing pencil skirt sloper/basic pattern - the basis for building your own pencil skirt at home.

Fitting & Creating the Perfect Pencil Skirt – 2hrs, 1 class session
Class Dates & Times: August 9 @ 6pm-8pm
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner - Intermediate
This class is the second in the Perfect Pencil Skirt Workshop Series. In this class, you’ll learn how to achieve perfect fit from your pencil skirt sloper or basic pattern. We’ll cover a muslin fitting session and from there, learn basic patternmaking skills to create a pencil skirt with a vent, lining, simple, contoured or high waistband, pockets or princess seams. Please note that this class builds upon a basic pattern or from the Drafting the Perfect Pencil Skirt class, but will also be beneficial to those who’ve already created a pencil/straight skirt sloper and don’t quite know what to do next. Drafting paper and drafting supplies included.

Constructing the Perfect Pencil Skirt – 4hrs, 2 class sessions
Class Dates & Times: August 14 & 16, @ 6pm-8pm
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner - Intermediate
This class is the third in the Perfect Pencil Skirt Workshop Series and will take place during two separate class sessions. So now you have a beautifully fitting pencil skirt pattern, and you’re ready to tackle creating one that you can actually wear out of the house. In this class you’ll learn tips and tricks for constructing a pencil skirt that’s both wearable, comfortable yet chic and sophisticated and endures the test of time and wear. We’ll discuss and learn such things as how to bone the waistband of a high-waisted skirt, picking the best zipper insertion option, how to stabilize seams properly, sew a vent and lining for your skirt and add unique touches to truly make the skirt your own. Each participant will be supplied with instructions for tips and techniques in addition to hands on instruction and will go home confident with a beautifully finished, easy to wear and pair, pencil skirt! Please note that this class requires that you have taken the class Fitting & Creating the Perfect Pencil Skirt.

Materials to purchase or bring from your stash: 1.5 yards 60” wide fashion fabric or 2 yards 45” wide fashion fabric prewashed and ready to cut; matching thread; 2 yards lining (optional); matching 14 “– 16”invisible or traditional zipper. It’s highly recommended that you bring your own sewing machine for this class.
Rare materials will be on hand to purchase if needed.

The Perfect Pencil Skirt Masterclass – 2 days
Class Dates & Times: August 24 @ 10am – 2pm & August 25 @ 10am – 4pm
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner – Intermediate
This masterclass combines all three pencil skirt classes into one. Over the course of 2 days we’ll go from start to finish and create the pencil skirt of your dreams! On the first day, we’ll combine drafting, fitting and creating a pencil skirt pattern that fits you like a glove. On day two, we’ll cut, construct and finish a pencil skirt that you can walk away wearing. Please read through the above class descriptions to become familiar with the exact process we’ll go through. Please note that we’ll take a break for lunch on both days.

Fitting Pants– 3 hrs, 1 class session; this class is offered multiple times this month
Class Dates & Times: August 11 @ 10am-1pm; August 23 @ 6pm-9pm; August 29 @ 10am-1pm
Skill Level: Intermediate
This class will help take the mystery out of fitting pants for your body. Together we’ll take a basic pants fitting shell and learn the ins and outs of how to get a perfectly fitting pair of pants. We’ll learn about taking proper measurements and picking the right pattern size for your body, constructing a muslin, what to look for and how to fix fitting enigmas. Each participant will be supplied with instructions, tips and tricks and resources for how to get great fit on any pair of pants.

Materials to purchase or bring from your stash: Vogue fitting shell 1003 (please bring the size that corresponds with your hip measurement; please take hip measurement over underwear at widest point along hipline; if in between sizes, please choose the larger size), 2.5 – 3 yards muslin



the Zipper Masterclass– 2 hrs, 1 class session; this class is offered multiple times this month
Class Dates & Times:August 1 @ 10am-12pm; August 21 @ 6pm – 8pm; August 30 @ 6pm-8pm
Skill Level: Beginner – Intermediate
This class is fully dedicated to zippers! In this class, we’ll learn about picking the best zipper type and insertion method, how to produce beautiful results for whatever type of insertion method you choose and how to handle and stabilize a zipper to last and give strength to a garment. You’ll learn how to handpick a traditional slot seam zipper, how to insert an invisible zipper with ease, how to handle an exposed zipper and how to insert a zipper into a lining.

the Box Blouse– 2 hrs, 1 class session; this class is offered multiple times this month
Class Dates & Times: August 3 @ 10am-12pm; August 15 @ 10am – 12pm; August 28 @ 6pm – 8pm
Skill Level: Beginner
An easy peasy blouse with a Jackie-O flair! A great project for beginners, fit friendly and simple to sew. Come and learn how to make this chic and sweet blouse with tips and tricks for how to vamp it up with a yoke, gathers, pleats or a neck tie.
