Fashion classes at Higher Ground

June 14th through the 16th Higher Ground Learning offered a fashion workshop for teens. Amber and I had the opportunity to teach this summer class and we had a great time. The goal of the week was to reduce, reuse, and recycle. It was so inspiring to see what these young designers came up with.

Monday's challenge was to create something completely new and different from a simple ol' white t-shirt. The girls were given dye, scissors, and a sewing machine then went to work.

Sneha

Riah

Tuesday, the students were given old pillow cases and some ribbon to embellish these fabulous skirts they made.

Bailey

Claire

Wednesday, old clothes were dumped onto a table and the girls had to alter, cut, tear, dye, embellish and accessorize a new outfit.

McCall
Stunning in studs

Angela
Fancy in frills

Angela
Lookin' good in linen

Thursday, the girls were given old buttons, zippers, bottle caps, and other recycled objects to make earings, pins, other jewelry and hair accessories.

Friday was the Fashion Show! I was so proud of these fabulous students. They did such a great job!

Catharine the great!

Our friend, customer and student, Catherine, tried to sell her wonderful bags at Fashion Stroll, but it was too wet and rainy. She was so sweet to help us all night. Catharine helped with our booth and with the runway show, she handed out flyers and told people about our store.
As if all of her wonderful help wasn't enough, she made me this fantastic purse. The inside has all sorts of great pockets and a clip to hold my keys. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am constantly losing my cell phone and keys. Thanks Catharine! This purse will help me stay organized. If you want to get one of Catharine's great bags go to http://www.etsy.com/shop/huckledesigns

hair cut

One night, a couple of weeks ago, I thought I would cut my bangs. I had a little accident with the scissors so I thought it would be funny to give my self a mullet. As is turns out, the mullet did not suit me so I cut all of my hair off.
I've had short hair before, but it is always an adjustment with haircuts. I felt like a little boy at first. Of course my wonderful customers saved the day again. My friend, Elizabeth, gave me some cute little headbands to make me feel like a girl again. To see more of the headbands she made go to http://blackcatdesigns.wordpress.com/2010/03/24/hair-band-gifts-for-friends/
Then another customer, Annie, stopped by. She had just come back from selling her headbands and belts at the Beehive Bazaar. I got this cute one from her. To see more of Annie's wonderful things go to http://www.etsy.com/shop/happylittleartist
