Dress

I made this dress out of rayon jersey and a cotton lace yoke that we have at the store. I had to dye the yoke, it was originally white. This is the most comfortable dress I own. I'm thinking about making it my nightgown.

SLCC Fashion Show

To all the SLCC students that participated in this evening's show, BRAVO! I was so impressed with everyone's collections. You all deserve a big pat on the back. It was a job well done and a very enjoyable evening. Keep up the great work!

French stripes, Swiss dots

Ever since I watched "Coco before Chanel" I have wanted a simple shirt like this...I have had a hard time finding a navy and white striped knit. As I was thrift store shopping last week I found a black and white striped turtle neck. It was so soft and comfortable, I couldn't pass it up. I cut the turtle neck off and made a flower with the extra fabric. It was fun and easy.
I made this skirt out of a cotton dotted swiss that we got in the store a couple weeks ago. The waistband is simply 3" wide black elastic (we also carry 3" wide white elastic). This skirt was also super quick and easy to make.

Spring flowers

As I looked through the Spring 2010 fashion magazines, I found a common thread; textured neutrals. It is everywhere and every designer is doing it in their own way.

I decided to create my own texture out of these origami-like flowers. They will soon be tacked onto dress that I am making. In the mean time, I wanted to share this lovely bouquet.

A glimpse of stocking... Oh so shocking

My friend, Leena, clipped a newspaper article out of the Salt Lake Tribune and gave it to me at the beginning of this year. It inspired me to be more refined in my dress. The article reads, "Dressing down -- for the office, special occasions and even supposed black-tie affairs -- has been around so long that today's teenagers and 20-somethings are over it. Instead of embracing the sloppy look that society has come to expect from its youth, this generation takes pride in pulling its look together." (for the whole article go to http://www.sltrib.com/ci_14099117?IADID=Search-www.sltrib.com-www.sltrib.com) Don't get me wrong, I love my holey jeans and band t-shirts, but I feel like I'm an adult now, a real person with business cards, credentials, and everything. I need to look the part. So many people come into my store, look at the silks and say "Oh that is beautiful, but where would I wear it?" I say wear it to the grocery store, wear it to a soccer game, wear it to your dentist appointment. If you love it, just wear it. It is a shame that we don't "dress up" anymore. Less than 5 decades ago people wouldn't leave the house with out a hat, now if I wear a pill box hat around town I get a funny look. Anyway, in the article there was a picture of these fabulous stockings that I couldn't find anywhere so I made my own. I love them and trust me, I wear them.
