Pattern Review

Claire Donnelly is awesome! She gave me a bunch of vintage patterns like this one, Retro Butterick #B6582. I really like the way it sewed up. I did have some issues with the darts. I had to unpick them twice and in the end I repatterned them a little differently. I also had some fit issues having to do with my big booty and large bust, but overall, I was pleased. I've been watching a lot of Mad Men lately and I feel a little like Joan in this dress. I love the evergreen dupioni and I couldn't resist putting the bows on the shoulders. Thanks Claire, I love my dress.

Fall Fashion

Leena printed out some pictures of the fall runway shows. I love this Oscar de la Renta dress!
I made one for myself.

I like the way it turned out, but I will probably make another and pattern it a little differently.
This Bottega Veneta dress is so simple, but the crepe de chine drapes so beautifully
and it feels like a dream. Thanks for the silk Leena, I love it

I love this vintage look!

Emily was one of the first brides to come through Yellow Bird Fabrics. She's been married for a year now! I can't believe how quickly time flies. Congratulations Emily! I wish you many more happy years!

better late than never

Amber showed these beautiful clothes at the last Fashion Stroll. They are absolutely impeccable. Amber is an amazing designer, tailor and seamstress. I asked her if I could collaborate with her for the fashion show.

These are some of the clothes that I made for the last Fashion Stroll. I never got any pictures so I decided to take some today. Thank you Amy and Amber. You are beautiful models!

Congratulations Jessie!

On August 12th 2010, Jessica Dunn became Jessica Dunn Parker. Jessie is my oldest and dearest friend. She is a beautiful person and I have been blessed to have her in my life for almost as far back as I can remember. I feel honored that she asked me to make her wedding dress. I don't want to brag, but I think she looked absolutely gorgeous! Then again, she always does.

Best wishes to you Jess, I hope you and Travis have a long and happy life together!

Beautiful things from our beautiful customers

Kathy Tanner, you've done it again! This is the most beautiful wedding dress I have ever had the privilege of witnessing. I'm sorry, this photo cannot do it justice. I'm really hoping that we might be able to display this beautiful work of art in the store so that others can appreciate it as much as I do.
Jenna is a design student at SLCC. She is incredibly sweet and incredibly talented (as you can see). This dress was on display at this years Raw Couture show. I was totally taken with it. Great job Jenna!
Sophie always amazes me with her immaculately tailored garments. This is just one of the many jackets that she has done. Trust me, it is as clean on the inside as it is outside. She is a real perfectionist.
Agnes is a great customer and a real sweetheart. She is always bringing in great ideas. I absolutely adore this knit skirt she made. It is simple and ingenious. I have yet to make it, but it is on my list of things to do. Thanks for the inspiration Agnes!

SLCC Designs

Back in February, the Salt Lake Community College Design Institute students had a little design competition. Yellow Bird Fabrics donated the materials needed and gift certificates for the winners. The designs were later auctioned off at an art show. All of the proceeds went to The American Red Cross for the Haiti fund. I finally got the pictures and here they are.
