January 2012 Classes

Monday Classes

Box Blouse
Date and time: Monday, January 9th 6:00-8:00pm
Objective: Come and make a simple top that we have fallen in love with here at Yellow Bird Fabrics.
Cost: $30 + Cost of materials
Materials: You will need 1 yard of 60" wide prewashed fabric. More yardage may be required for 45" wide fabric.


Infinity Scarf
Date and time: Monday, January 16th 6:00-7:00pm
Ojective: Make a simple and trendy knit scarf to keep you warm through the winter months.
Cost: $25 materials included
Materials: 1/2 yard of 60" wide knit.


Exposed Elastic Waistband Skirt
Date and time: Monday, January 23 6:00-8:00pm
Objective: Create a full and flirty skirt. Use a gather stitch and apply a modern twist to a classic style.
Cost: $30 + the cost of materials
Materials: You will need 1 yard of 60" wide prewashed woven fabric for a knee length skirt. More yardage may be required for 45" wide fabric or for longer or fuller skirts.

Necktie
Date and time: Monday, January 30 6:00-8:00pm
Objective: Learn how to make a necktie while practicing couture hand sewing techniques.
Cost: $30 +the cost of materials
Materials: You will need 7/8 yard of 60" or 45" wide woven fabric.

Tuesday Classes

Flat Pattern Design: Using Slopers
Date and time: Tuesday, January 10th 6:00-8:00pm
Objective: Learn how to use slopers to alter commercial patterns.
Cost: $30 (all materials included)

Flat Pattern Design: Moving Bodice Darts
Date and time: Tuesday, January 17th 6:00-8:00pm
Objective: Learn how to make and alter patterns. In this class you will:
Make basic half size slopers
Move darts using the slash method and the pivot method
Cost: $35 (all materials included)

Flat Pattern Design: Gathers on Bodice
Date and time: Tuesday, January 24th 6:00-8:00pm
Objective: Learn how to make and alter patterns. Using half size slopers, you will draft a gathered bodice pattern.
Cost: $35 (all materials included)

Wednesday Classes

Get to know your Serger
Date and Time: Wednesday, January 4th 6:00-8:00pm
Objective: For those who have a serger but aren’t quite sure how to use it, or for those who just need a refresher, this is the class for you. In this class, the focus will be on threading the serger, troubleshooting problems, and basic serger techniques.
Cost: $30

Get to know your Sewing Machine
Date and Time: Wednesday, January 11th 6:00-8:00pm
Objective: For those who have a sewing machine but aren’t sure how to use it, or those who just need a refresher, this is the class for you. In this class you will learn things from threading the machine, to dealing with troublesome tension.
Cost: $30

Thursday classes


Pencil Skirt
Date and Time: Thursday, January 5th 6:00-8:00pm and continued on Thursday, January 12th 6:00-8:00pm
Objective: Have the confidence to break free of using patterns. Create a simple and elegant skirt that is custom fit to your measurements.
Cost: $50 + the cost of materials
Materials: You will need a zipper and 1 yard of 60" wide prewashed woven fabric for a knee length skirt. More yardage may be required for 45" wide fabric or for longer or fuller skirts.


A-line Skirt
Date and time: Thursday, January 19th 6:00-8:00pm and continued on Thursday, January 26th 6:00-8:00pm
Objective: Have the confidence to break free of using patterns. Create a simple and elegant skirt that is custom fit to your measurements.

Sewing machines and supplies will be provided. We encourage those with sewing machines to bring them. It is more beneficial to learn these techniques on your own machines.
For classes that do not include your materials, you may bring your own or you may purchase them from Yellow Bird Fabrics and receive 20% off.

  1. Do you have any sample photos to give me an idea of what I'd be making in the classes? I'd like to take a class that teaches me to make a garment, but it's hard to decide without knowing the finished project might look like. Thanks!
