Haiti Relief Art Show

DAY 1 (OPENING SHOW NIGHT) IS ON FRIDAY THE 12TH OF FEB. FROM 5-9 PM.
DAY 2 ART WILL STAY UP AVAILABLE FOR SALE 10AM-9PM

We are asking for a minimum $2 entrance fee which will also be donated.

Beautiful art has been donated by many local artists & photographers. SLCC Design Institute students will be autioning off winning designs made with Yellow Bird Fabrics' silk. All the donated art will be available to purchase with all of the proceeds going to The American Red Cross for the Haiti fund.

The Association of Fashion Designers and Alta Moda Bridal are honored to present a lecture for international wedding gown designer Ann Barge. Come hear Ms. Barge share her passion and experience in international fashion design and the secrets of her success. Pieces from Ms. Barge’s collection will also be on display. 40 minute lecture will be followed by a 30 minute Q & A. Come share this very rare Utah fashion experience.

Knits for beginners

Dates and times: Tuesday, February 9th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm & Tuesday, February 16th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: For those who are just learning to sew with knits, broaden your knowledge by:

Learning basic types of knit fabrics

Discussing what projects can be made with knits

Using a serger and practicing basic finishing techniques

Project: A basic t-shirt, the building block for all knit projects

Instructor: Amber Lee is a local seamstress, designer, and fabric maven. She specializes in working with knits.

Cost: $75 (all materials included*)

*Sewing machines will be provided for those without one. We strongly encourage those with sewing machines and sergers to bring them. It is more beneficial to learn these techniques on your own machines.

Intermediate Knits

Dates and times: Tuesday, February 23rd 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm & Tuesday, March 2nd 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: For the more experienced seamstress that has not had the opportunity to work with knit fabrics, here is your chance to learn more by:

A brief overview of serger use and types of knit fabrics

Practicing more advanced construction and sewing techniques

Project: A basic knit dress

Instructor: Amber Lee is a local seamstress, designer, and fabric maven. She specializes in working with knits.

Cost: $75 (all materials included*)

*Sewing machines will be provided for those without one. We strongly encourage those with sewing machines and sergers to bring them. It is more beneficial to learn these techniques on your own machines.

Textile basics

Dates and times: Thursday, March 18th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm & Thursday, March 25th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: This workshop is designed to help designers and seamstresses that know what they are looking for in a fabric, but don't necessarily know the correct terminology.

Learn the difference between fiber content, weaves, and finishes.

Recognize fabrics by sight, touch and even smell.

Project: Collect and catalog over fifty different textile swatches

Instructor: Amy Royer is a local seamstress, designer, Apparel and Textiles graduate, fabric-aholic and owner of Yellow Bird Fabrics.

Cost: $50 (all materials included)
