My friend, Leena, clipped a newspaper article out of the Salt Lake Tribune and gave it to me at the beginning of this year. It inspired me to be more refined in my dress. The article reads, "Dressing down -- for the office, special occasions and even supposed black-tie affairs -- has been around so long that today's teenagers and 20-somethings are over it. Instead of embracing the sloppy look that society has come to expect from its youth, this generation takes pride in pulling its look together." (for the whole article go to http://www.sltrib.com/ci_14099117?IADID=Search-www.sltrib.com-www.sltrib.com) Don't get me wrong, I love my holey jeans and band t-shirts, but I feel like I'm an adult now, a real person with business cards, credentials, and everything. I need to look the part. So many people come into my store, look at the silks and say "Oh that is beautiful, but where would I wear it?" I say wear it to the grocery store, wear it to a soccer game, wear it to your dentist appointment. If you love it, just wear it. It is a shame that we don't "dress up" anymore. Less than 5 decades ago people wouldn't leave the house with out a hat, now if I wear a pill box hat around town I get a funny look. Anyway, in the article there was a picture of these fabulous stockings that I couldn't find anywhere so I made my own. I love them and trust me, I wear them.
Ok are you going to tell us how you made your fabulous stockings. I agree with you. Nobody dresses up anymore. I enjoy your blog. And can't wait to get to that store of yours.
ReplyDeleteThey are actually very simple to make. I drew a pattern from a pair of leggings that I had and then made it about 9 inches longer for my feet (I have big feet). You only need about 1 1/3 yards of pretty stretchy knit then you make 3 seams and you are done. They're pretty fun to make and you can borrow my pattern if you like.
