Maxi Skirt

Date and time: Monday, July 9th 6:00-8:00pm

Skill Level: Beginner

Have the confidence to break free of using patterns. Create a simple and elegant skirt that is custom fit to your measurements.

Cost: $30 + the cost of materials

Materials: You will need 1 1/2 yards of 60" wide prewashed knit fabric. More yardage may be required for 45" wide fabric or for longer or fuller skirts.

Knits for Beginners

Date and time: Monday, July 16th 6:00-8:00pm

Skill Level: Beginner

For those who are just learning to sew with knits, broaden your knowledge by:

Learning basic types of knit fabrics

Discussing what projects can be made with knits

Using a serger and practicing basic finishing techniques

Making a basic t-shirt, the building block for all knit projects

Materials:You will need 1 yard of 60" wide prewashed knit for a short sleeve t-shirt. You will need 1 1/2 yards for a long sleeve t-shirt.

Ballet Style Slippers

Date and time: Monday, July 23rd 6:00-8:00pm

Skill Level: Beginner to intermediate

Learn to make a comfy pair of shoes.

Kaftan

Date and time: Monday, July 30th 6:00-8:00pm

Beltmaking 101

Dates and times: This class will be offered twice this month. It will be held in the evening on Thursday, July 5th 6:00-8:00pm. We will also offer it during the morning on Thursday, July 19th 10:00am-12:00pm.

Skill Level: Beginner

This class is all about having fun and delving into the world of accessories by creating stellar belts to go with that outfit you just stitched up. These spicy little numbers are a cinch to make! You’ll be learning tried and true techniques from how to cover a buckle to finishing off your belt with eyelets. Each participant will be supplied with a belt and buckle kit to make their own belt plus a list of resources for finding the best beltmaking supplies and instructions for how to recreate belts at home. Come one, come all and let’s have us a belt party!

Materials to purchase or bring from your stash: 1/4 yard woven fabric and matching thread. 

Drafting the Perfect Pencil Skirt

Dates and times: This class will be offered twice this month. It will be held in the morning on Saturday, July 7th 10:00am-12:00pm. We will also offer it in the evening on Tuesday, July 10th 6:00-8:00pm.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Hey all you studious gals with a pencil skirt fetish, this class was tailored just for you! Do you lust after perfectly fitting pencil skirt patterns yet find them all to be lacking perfect fit? Fear no more! In this class, you’ll learn how to draft and fit the perfect pencil skirt just for you made from your measurements. From taking measurements, to putting them on paper, we’ll go from start to perfectly fitting pencil skirt in no time. For this class, participants will be supplied with drafting paper and come away with one amazing pencil skirt sloper and basic pattern. In addition, we will be fitting a muslin! All three elements – sloper, pattern and muslin will be the basis for building your own pencil skirt at home.

Materials to purchase or bring from your stash: 2 - 3 yards of 45" wide cotton muslin, 9" - 12" zipper, thread.

Building the Perfect Pencil Skirt

Dates and times: This class will be offered twice this month. It will be held in the morning on Saturday, July 14th 10:00am-12:00pm. We will also offer it in the evening on Tuesday, July 17th 6:00-8:00pm.

Skill Level: Intermediate

So now you have a beautifully fitting pencil skirt pattern, and you’re ready to tackle the decision to create one that you can actually wear out of the house. In this class you’ll learn tips and tricks for constructing a pencil skirt that’s both wearable, comfortable yet chic and sophisticated and endures the test of time and wear. You’ll learn how to engineer the pencil skirt you were made to wear. We’ll discuss and learn such things as how to bone the waistband of a high-waisted skirt, picking the best zipper insertion option plus how to add a vent and create a lining for your skirt. Each participant will be supplied with instructions for tips and techniques in addition to hands on instruction and will go home confident in how to create a gorgeous pencil skirt!

Fitting Pants

Dates and times: This class will be held in the morning on Saturday, July 21st 10:00am-12:00pm. 

Skill Level: Intermediate

This class will help take the mystery out of fitting pants for your body. Together we’ll take a basic pant fitting shell or pattern and learn the ins and outs of how to get a perfectly fitting pair of pants. We’ll learn about taking proper measurements and picking the right pattern size for your body, constructing a muslin, what to look for and how to fix fitting enigmas. Each participant will be supplied with instructions, tips and tricks and resources for how to get great fit on any pants pattern.

Cost: $50 + cost of materials

Materials to purchase or bring from your stash: a pants sewing pattern or Vogue fitting shell 1003 (please bring the size that corresponds with your hip measurement), 2.5 – 3 yards muslin

Sewing machines and supplies will be provided. We encourage those with sewing machines to bring them. It is more beneficial to learn these techniques on your own machines.
