Art Meets Fashion

Hey Everyone! I just thought I would let you about the next fashion show that's coming up.

Art Meets Fashion 2010 will premiere exclusive spring lines with professional runway shows for local designers: Keith Bryce, McKell Maddox,Jordan Halversen, Rachael Domingo, Rebekah McKinney and Krista Nielson. Also featuring unique designs by Michelle Boucher amidst a live fashion photo-shoot by Jake Garn, fashion art installations from SLCC Fashion Institute and an eclectic mix of performance art and entertainment. The evening will offer exquisite tasting stations from fine local restaurants and beverage purveyors. Ticket sales will benefit two local non-profit organizations:Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and Salt Lake Art Center.

Pink Dresses for Breast Cancer Awareness

Communities United put together a great fashion show. All of the dresses were beautiful. I think all of the designers did a wonderful job!This is the pink dress that I made. My beautiful sister-in-law, Kelli Powell, modeled it for me.

October classes

Monday nights; Sewing Technique Classes

In this group of classes you will learn basic, but essential techniques used in everyday sewing. Students will make samples of each technique to have for future reference.

Zippers

Date and time: Monday, October 4th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: Learn to put in a lap zipper and an invisible zipper

Cost: $35 (all materials included)


Sleeves

Date and time: Monday, October 11th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: Learn how to set different types of sleeves

Cost: $35 (all materials included)


Seam Finishes

Date and time: Monday, October 18th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: Give your garments a more finished, professional look by learning different techniques to finish your seams. Techniques include:

French seams

Mock French seams

Hong Kong

Flat-feld

Self bound

Cost: $35 (all materials included)


French Curve

Date and time: Monday, October 25th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: This class will teach you how to use a french curve when altering and creating flat patterns

Cost: $35 (all materials included)


Tuesday nights; Skirts

Fun skirts for every occasion

Circle Skirt

Date and time: Tuesday, October 5th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and continued on Tuesday October 12th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: Have the confidence to break free of using patterns. Create a simple and elegant skirt that is custom fit to your measurements.

Cost: $50 + the cost of materials


A-line Skirt

Date and time: Tuesday, October 19th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and continued on Tuesday October 26th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: Have the confidence to break free of using patterns. Create a simple and elegant skirt that is custom fit to your measurements.

Cost: $50 + the cost of materials


Wednesday nights; Knits

If you're not sewing with knits, you are missing out. Come in and try it out. We're sure you will love it.

Knits for beginners

Dates and times: Wednesday, October 6th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and continued on Wednesday, October 13th6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: For those who are just learning to sew with knits, broaden your knowledge by:

    Learning basic types of knit fabrics

    Discussing what projects can be made with knits

    Using a serger and practicing basic finishing techniques

Project: A basic t-shirt, the building block for all knit projects

Cost: $75 (all materials included)


Intermediate Knits

Dates and times: Wednesday, October 20th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and continued on Wednesday, October 27th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: For the more experienced seamstress that has not had the opportunity to work with knit fabrics, here is your chance to learn more by:

    A brief overview of serger use and types of knit fabrics

    Practice more advanced construction and sewing techniques

Project: A basic knit dress

Cost: $75 (all materials included)


Thursday nights; Fun Projects

Join us this month for some Halloween fun!

Tie Making Class

Date and time: Thursday, October 7th 6:00pm-8:00 pm

Objective: Learn how to make a necktie while practicing couture hand sewing techniques.

Cost: $30 + the cost of materials


Stitch-n-Witch

Date and time: Thursday, October 14th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Thursday, October 28th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Objective: Need help making your Halloween costumes? Is your sewing room looking scary? Bring in your problematic sewing projects and we will help you sort them out.

Cost: It's free and fun for all!
