The first day of the workshop, the students were taught basic proportions of the body then given time to sketch their fashion illustrations and flats.
On day two, we focused on textiles. The students were given about 50 different fabric swatches and learned about their fiber content and weave.
Midweek was the time to start making their flat patterns for the projects they would be making.
As soon as they had their completed patterns they went to work cutting and sewing. A couple of the students had never used a sewing machine, but you would have never guessed it. They were sewing naturals, they all did so well!
Friday was the big day. All of the hard work, the hours of unpicking, and having to put up with me finally paid off. The fashion show was superb and these students all have a beautiful garment to be proud of!
A Huge Thanks to: Higher Ground for proving a wonderfully creative atmosphere for these kids and for allowing me to do this workshop. To Kate Lewis for being there all week and for helping and inspiring the students. To Kathleen Sykes for teaching illustration and helping me so much with this workshop and at Yellow Bird Fabrics. To Catherine "The Great" Scott, you are truly great! Thank you for all of these photos. Thank you for always jumping in and pulling me out of a tight spot. I couldn't have done it without you. Last, but not least, Thanks to all the students, Ethan, Andrea, Christine, Gretta, June, Jenna, Katherine, McCall, Gracie, Amanda, and Nikki. You are all incredible designers. I see great potential in all of you. Keep up the good work!
